Ichipangai

Beijing

Teleport to Tokyo at this food court of tiny izakaya and counter-top joints frequented by Beijing's community of Japanese salarymen. Suika (醉香, second restaurant on the right), serves grilled skewers, fried chicken, eel rice, and Viking-sized tankards of ice-cold Japanese beer (or Suntory highballs if you're really out to party).

Head upstairs to Lāmiàn Zhuāng (拉面庄) for authentic counter-top ramen and comforting omurice (Japanese omelette with fried rice). At the very back on the 2nd floor is Shouyu Dashi (手羽大使), a boozy lounge specialising in lip-smacking chicken wings, and where sozzled regulars keep their own bottles of sake behind the bar.
