Shameful Tiki Room

Vancouver

This windowless snug instantly transports you to a Polynesian beach. The lighting – including glowing puffer-fish lampshades – is permanently set to dusk and the walls are lined with tiki masks and rattan coverings under a straw-shrouded ceiling. But it's the drinks that rock; seriously well-crafted classics from zombies to blue Hawaiis to a four-person Volcano Bowl (don't forget to share it).

Arrive early on weekends; there's only space for around 50 people. The worst thing about this perfect little tiki bar? When someone opens the door and lets the light in from the outside, it reminds you that reality is waiting. Block it out with another Volcano Bowl.
