For a coveted seat at one of the dinged old tables, arrive off-peak at this sunny, super-friendly corner cafe, which combines creaky wooden floors and a junk-shop bric-a-brac aesthetic. Join hipsters and office workers who've been calling this their local for years and who come mainly for the freshly prepared baguette sandwiches (pear, blue Brie, prosciutto and roasted walnuts recommended).

A quirky little hangout, Finch's is a great spot for an afternoon coffee and banana bread pit stop. It's also a popular breakfast destination, with boiled egg and soldiers ($7) as an ever-popular comfort-dish option. Looking for the best seats? Aim for an elevated window table and you'll be lauding it over all the other diners.
