Recife

Brazil's gourmet burger revolution has spread countrywide and this is Recife's trendy entry into the fray. The burgers aren't quite up to the ambience but the Sertão option with carne de sol (a tasty, salted meat) and coalho cheese is an interesting local taste. There are several options of fries (including poutine) and decent imported beers, too.

Bring your vegetarian friends; there's a whole separate menu for them (including veggie, shitake and falafel burgers etc) and there's a hip bar attached, so you won't have to go far to make a night of it.
