On the riverbank 1.5km north of town, the Swiss-owned Sossego is a perfect haven for resting for a couple of days, or as a relaxed base for excursions. The four large bungalows have elegant bathrooms and big beds with lots of pillows. There's a white-sand river beach at the foot of the gardens and free kayaks for guest use.
It's on the road out to the dunes so guests have the advantage of not having to wait while the vans drive around town picking up guests. Call to organize a boat pick-up from Barreirinhas. It's also possible to cross the river on the small free boat at the north end of Av Joaquim Soeiro de Carvalho and take a quad-taxi (RS$5) or walk 10 minutes to the lodge.
