Macondo de Pizza Pazza Bar

Top choice

For a Bolivia highlight, head here on Friday 'bohemian nights' (B$40; free for hotel guests), an intoxicating scene with live folkloric music, dancing and bottles of local vino and singani. The action starts at 10pm (call for reservations or else you'll be stuck peering through doorways); like clockwork, Hector and his mum Edith start dancing on tables around midnight.

Toto Vaca, a well-known Tarijeño singer often performs and locals dance traditional cueca and chacarera in their own unique ways.

The rooftop patio with incomparable nighttime views (open September to April) and the ground-floor bar are also open nightly.

Once a month, usually around the 15th, Macondo hosts a five-course wine-tasting event (B$250) focused on local bodegas, with winery owners and enologists providing commentary.
