On the northern edge of the park in the tiny, charming hamlet of Tomarapi, 12km beyond Sajama, is this enticing community-run 35-bed ecolodge, which offers the area’s most comfortable accommodations. Occupying lovely thatched buildings, styled along traditional local architectural lines, it has simple rooms with heating, private bathrooms and hot water, and a very welcoming log fire.
It also offers excellent food, featuring lots of llama meat. Twenty-five families from the nearby village of Caripe work the lodge on a rotating basis. With advanced notice transport can be arranged from Tambo Quemado (B$250).
