Perched beside a peaceful stretch of the Wang Chhu, about 7km south of Thimphu, Termalinca packs a lot of comfort into its stone and timber buildings. Scattered around stone courtyards and beautifully tended gardens are multiple restaurants, a gym, spa rooms with a hot stone bath, and enormous wood-panelled rooms decorated in a modern-Bhutan-meets-dynastic-China style.
The long, curved bar looking out over the river is one nice touch; the intricately carved traditional dining room at the end of the grounds is another. Cooking classes, archery lessons and guided hikes are available for a fee. The resort is part-owned by the eldest wife of the fourth king. Discounts are often available.
