Edging into the forest high above the east bank of the Wang Chhu, this old-fashioned but charming resort is set beside an ancient goemba built on the site of the vanished palace of the Druk Desi (secular ruler) Lam Tsewang. Rooms are comfortable rather than luxurious, but it's the tranquil location and the restaurant and terrace overlooking the city that are the main drawcards.
New blocks are being added to the sprawling campus, which is dotted with cases displaying the owner's collection of Bhutanese antiques.
