Les Comptes de Méan

Liège

Two of Liège's finest ridge-top historic town-house mansions combine to front this five-star business hotel. With a castle-like round tower and muralled interior, the Sélys Longchamps section contains eight 'historic suites' and the Selys Restaurant. Over 100 other rooms are discreetly hidden in a new six-storey block descending almost invisibly from a spectacular rooftop bar linked by a cafe-walkway to reception.

Upper rooms have great views but cheaper ones tend to be low down and only look out at the cliff front. There's a modest indoor pool in the spa. A 'Cave Bar' that makes the most of one of the site's oldest features is not generally open except for special events. Breakfast costs €23.
