GenGoulf

The Ardennes

If you're determined to see inside a brewery while visiting Orval, head 1.5km southwest to the former railway station in Villers-devant-Orval where, behind a rusty old steam locomotive, this microbrewery produces a refreshing pale ale along with prize-winning beers variously flavoured with hibiscus, rose or – most successfully – cepe mushrooms (€8 per four-bottle set ). A visit with tasting costs €5.

GenGoulf is named for a commander of Pepin the Short's, whose statue graces a fountain in the village.
