Crane Beach Hotel

Barbados

Dating to 1887, the roots of this gracious resort can still be found in the lovely restaurants set in classic buildings that overlook the beach and ocean. Much of the complex is quite modern, with hundreds of luxurious condos decked out with high-end furnishings and mod cons. Some have fantastic views and all have access to the lavish resort facilities.

There are six pools of varying sizes and an elevator down to the soft sands of Crane Beach from the restaurant area. If you like the kind of place that has an entire shop devoted to items bearing its logo, you’ll love this sprawling, swanky Shangri-la. Significant early booking discounts are usually available.

If you're just coming to eat, there are five restaurants to chose from. Check out L’Azure, which is perched on a bluff above the sea and has upscale modern Caribbean cuisine (dinner mains B$56 to B$116). Book in advance.
