Golden Sands

Barbados

This unassuming restaurant out the back of a hotel is a great place to try some traditional Bajan dishes, especially on Saturday when it serves souse – pickled pieces of pork served cold with steamed potato and blood pudding. It includes all parts (ears and feet are highly prized), but if you're feeling squeamish you can order 'steam and lean', the all-meat version.

Make a reservation or be prepared to queue – it's hugely popular with locals. On Fridays there's an 'Eat Bajan' set menu for B$25 that includes plenty of other local specialties.
