Ovdan

Baku

A selection of very genuine regional sweets, preserves and variants on halva/paxlava (baclava) are sold in this delightful little shop. It's in a stone-lined cavern entered through the tunnel that was an underground water-collection point in medieval times. It's immediately on the left as you enter the Old City from İçərişəhər metro station.

It is said to have once been linked by a much-longer network of tunnels to the Shirvanshah palace and beyond. They also sell loose Lənkəran teas, pomegranate sauces, fruit compotes, fresh pastries and a wide variety of unusual homemade jams: the lurid green preserved almonds are quite a sight.
