The riverside Wiesler, a Jugendstil (art nouveau) gem from 1901, has been transformed into Graz' most glamorous hotel, complete with oriental-style spa. Hotelier Florian Weltzer has shaken up everything, including the notion of room categories, and ensured that this is a luxury experience that is far from stuffy.
Rooms may have a wall left stripped bare, offset by a dramatic black chandelier, a freestanding bath nestled in a bay window, or a bedhead bookshelf complete with classic typewriter. Breakfast is still served under the Spring mosaic by Leopold Forstner – a scholar of Koloman Moser and friend of Gustav Klimt – while next door, in the Speisesaal restaurant, young street artist Josef Wurm's mural graces the 4.3m-high hall. Special.
