Styria

While the Weinstrasse can seem impossibly rustic in places, this gourmet superstore is symbolic of Styria's rising status as a food and wine mecca. With its precariously stacked shipping containers outside, it's certainly hard to miss. If you're short on time for cellar door visits, you can stock up on most of the local producers here.

There is also an amazing range of local gourmet bounty from pumpkin-seed products, nutty cakes and biscuits to chutneys and jams, most of which can be sampled. From 10am the cafe serves Styrian specialties; the stellar local whites are, of course, on the menu too. It's a five-minute drive across the river from Ehrenhausen proper.
