Hamelin Outback Station Stay

Top choice in West Coast Australia

Far and away the nicest place to stay along Shark Bay Rd, Hamelin Station is a former pastoral property transformed into a 202,000-hectare conservation reserve by its owners, the NGO Bush Heritage Australia. The rooms in the converted shearers' quarters are lovely and the amenities (including the communal kitchen-dining area) are top-notch; the bush camping sites are all unpowered.

There's great birdlife at the property's waterhole and wetlands, and you can take a self-guided tour through the old shearing sheds. It's 31km from the Overlander Roadhouse, and 5km from Hamelin Pool.
