Mickey Bourke's Koroit Hotel

Top choice in Great Ocean Road

At the forefront of Koroit's Irish heritage, this hotel (c 1853) with an art nouveau facade is a prominent landmark on the town's historic main street. It's one of the most atmospheric pubs in regional Victoria, with a roaring fire and ornate period features – and, of course, Guinness on tap, to go with Irish stew, pies and roasts (mains $19 to $34).

There are rooms (singles/doubles $69/99) upstairs, too. It's located 6km from Tower Hill Reserve and is along the rail trail, so it's feasible to cycle here from Port Fairy or Warrnambool. Pick up the Koroit Heritage Trail leaflet and take a stroll around town.

The Koroit Irish Festival takes place over the last weekend in April; the pub's at the centre of the action.
