Long Paddock

Top choice in Victoria

This esteemed restaurant in the tiny town of Lindenow adds to regional Victoria's culinary cachet. Run by a husband-and-wife team – who together boast an impressive résumé (Cumulus Inc, Vue de Monde and Michelin-starred restaurants) – it occupies a charming old bakery with original wood-fired scotch oven and serves divine dishes made from scratch using local ingredients.

The menu changes daily depending on what's available, with meats and vegetables sourced from local farms or fishing co-ops. Expect rustic fresh breakfasts of house-made maple-toasted granola or innovative English fry-ups; lunch offers the likes of Bruthen pork belly or more casual (but no less delicious) offerings of Maffra cheddar and leg-ham toasties or Gippsland beef pies. A five-course degustation dinner ($65) is available on Saturday. Somehow you'll need to make room for the exquisite array of home-baked cakes, along with regional wines and craft beers.
