Lost in the parched dune county south of Cygnet River, difficult-to-pronounce Stranraer is a plush, four-suite B&B in a meticulously restored 1920 stone villa with established gardens. It's a surprising find – there's nothing else for miles around, other than sheep paddocks and the also-surprising MacGillivray Cricket Club (est. 1932), a lush green oval next to the homestead. What an oasis!
