Port Admiral Hotel

Adelaide

A flagship business in the rejuvenation of Port Adelaide is the Port Admiral Hotel, reopened in 2017 after a decade of boarded-up dereliction. It's a fabulous old building (1849) on the main street, with bearded craft-beer drinkers swanning around a curvaceous art-deco bar. Order a pint and some fish and chips and head for the buzzy little courtyard.

There are at least half-a-dozen other historic pubs in the Port which closed when shipping services moved north to Outer Harbour mid-last century. Perhaps the Port Admiral's success will prompt a few more of them to dust themselves off and reopen for business.
