These four attractive guestrooms attached to the impressive Djilpin Arts complex in Beswick are a wonderful chance to sleep overnight in a predominantly Aboriginal community. The accommodation – on stilts and with a contemporary outback aesthetic, including louvred windows to catch the prevailing breezes – is simple, stylish and smart-casual. There's a range of simple gallery pieces on display. An excellent choice.
There's also a communal kitchen, and cultural packages that revolve around the arts centre and local community are on offer. Excursions into the surrounding bush can be arranged, either with the women going in search of pandanus or the men looking for honey and didgeridoo materials (half-/full-day $165/350 per person). All profits go back into the community and the arts centre.
