Aboriginal Tent Embassy

Canberra

First erected in 1972 as a protest against the government's approach to Indigenous land rights, this camp on the lawn in front of Old Parliament House came and went over the subsequent two decades before being re-established in 1992. It has been a constant presence since then, providing a continuing reminder of Indigenous dispossession for those visiting the symbolic heart of Australian democracy.
